Dry eye assessment
Dry eye management has become more of an issue over recent years due to the increase in the number of elderly, & arthritic patients, & due to side effects from medication (such as HRT).
We provide dry eye assessment appointments to look at the cause of the symptoms (eyelids, tear film, environment, medication, & systemic diseases). We then advise on the best way to manage these symptoms using a variety of methods, such as: eyelid hygiene, ocular lubricants, punctal plugging, lacrimal duct irrigation, dietary supplements, environmental changes etc.
Watery eyes are as much a problem, and cause ocular discomfort, redness, and eyelid problems. Cases of watering eyes are assessed and managed in the same way.
Punctal plugging
Some patients with dry eyes benefit from having their tear drainage ducts blocked to increase the volume of tears available to lubricate the front surface of the eye.
To do this, small collagen or silicone plugs are inserted, painlessly, into the duct and left in place. The plugs can give considerable improvements in dry eye symptoms, and can be removed easily in most cases.
If you think that this process would be of benefit to you, then please book a dry eye assessment first for evaluation of the cause of your dry eye symptoms.
